Today we celebrated Easter in the kindergarten by having a nice Easter party.
Since two weeks we had been daily practicing the German Easter songs and preparing Easter basket with craft work. I love to sing " Stups der kleine Oster Hase...." and wonder why don't we have an English song for Easters too.
And today was the Easter party.
We assembled in the hall and sang "Stups der kleine..." Cl had prepared a beautiful breakfast table with honey bread toasts, tomato basil cracker bread toasts, boiled Easter eggs and lots of chocolates. The children loved the toasts but naturally preferred the chocolates over them. Mx who is a little German-Dutch boy loved the chocolates so much that he devoured all the ones near him and started attacking other children sitting near him to get some more. When he finally couldn't get anymore he started dipping empty chocolate wrappers into his glass of juice and then lick them in a desperate attempt to get any remaining chocolate crumbs in them.
After the eating when the children went to toilet, Cl secretly slipped out to hide the Easter baskets in the classroom for the children to hunt. " I have to make them believe that while we were in the toilet the Easter rabbit had come in the class and kept the baskets full of chocolates for them." She said.
It was so thrilling to see children's excited faces when they learnt and fully believed that the Easter rabbit had come in their absence and hid the baskets for them. They hunted the baskets while squealing in delight. Then the Easter lunch and the day was over.... They all had eaten so much chocolates during the snack time that none had any appetite left for lunch at all.
Our school is closing down tomorrow for Easter holidays.
